The Evolution of the Alfa Romeo Giulia

July 29th, 2020 by

The history weaved into the 2020 Alfa Romeo Giulia design builds upon the past and launches into the future. The updates add the latest in technology and style while still keeping those classic Alfa Romeo touches. Clean lines on the body and lots of power in the engine make these cars stand out in its class.

Alfa Romeo Giulia’s history makes this more than just another vehicle and is an excellent addition to the list of new vehicles coming onto the lot. Take a look at some of the updates coming to this year’s model and walk through the car’s history as it has evolved over the decades.

The Giulia’s History

Alfa Romeo is headquartered in Turin, Italy, and has been manufacturing cars for 110 years. They started with racing and then turned to consumer vehicles later.

The Alfa Romeo Guilia’s history begins with the 105. This sporty four-door compact executive car built from 1962-1978 was one of the first car models to feature a powerful engine in a lightweight car. The notchback saloon-style made the cars roomy enough for comfort, while still providing a touch of prestige. There was even a station wagon model, the Guilia Super Colli Giardiniera.

The modern line, the 952, was unveiled in 2015 with great fanfare, including a performance of “Nessun Dorma” by Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli. It was the first saloon-style model since 2011 when Alfa ceased production of the 159. It was also the first longitudinal rear-wheel-drive platform since the 75 models ended in 1992.

In addition to the numerous awards, the Alfa Romeo Giulia can be seen in several high profile positions. The Italian police department uses a couple of Guilias as patrol cars. This current line has even been featured in Hollywood. The Alfa Romeo Guilia and Ryan Reynolds starred alongside each other in the Netflix original movie, 6 Underground. The film features lots of flashy driving and chase scenes that show off the handling and precision of the Guilia.

Updated Alfa Romeo Giulia Design Features

The 2019 Alfa Romeo Giulia was already a strong model, but the 2020 Alfa Romeo Giulia takes those strengths and creates an even more powerful version. The look of the body is just as sleek and stylish as before. The smooth round edges give it a classic softness. But don’t mistake that for weakness.

Under the hood is an all-aluminum 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine. It boasts 280 horsepower and can reach a top speed of 149 mph. It has several model options with upgrades and features unique to each. The sport, Ti, and Quadrifoglio build on themselves and give you the car that’s just right for your needs.

The design takes great care to ensure that there is a nearly perfect balance from front to back and side to side. This balance allows the 2020 Alfa Romeo Guilia to handle like a dream while getting a real-world-tested 32 MPG.

Inside is where the real changes can be noticed that take the 2020 Alfa Romeo Giulia to new heights. The console has been completely updated, adding more style while also increasing the functionality. Alfa Romeo added an 8.8-inch touch screen with 3D navigation. The larger screen makes it easier to find the music you want or where you want to go without taking your eyes off the road, and the touchscreen means you don’t have to spend time messing with dials and buttons. There’s also a convenient wireless charging station for your phone.

In addition to the added tech, drivers will also enjoy the enhanced driver’s assistance package. Drive confidently with emergency braking, forward collision detection, and even some semi-autonomous functions on select models.
